Go Green

The state of the environment gets a lot of attention these days.  Dire predictions about the effects of global warming, reduced green spaces, and increased pollution are all are highly politicized, scary concepts.  Many of us feel that it is up to the politicians to sort through the issues and protect our society, and we are content with putting a bin of recyclable items on the roadside each week, and possibly even joining a local grassroots environmental group to protest a cause dear to our hearts.  However, on a day-to-day basis, we don’t feel there’s much more we can do.

The thing we often forget in our consumer society is just how much our everyday purchasing habits can make a difference. Purchasing power is a tremendous strength that we hold and can wield every day.  The beauty of it is that being a Green Consumer is a really easy thing to do. All you need is a bit of effort, education and awareness.

You don’t have to go out of your way to make a difference.  When you go into a shop you usually have quite a few brands to choose from and make your purchase based on price, name brand, and packaging.

By simply taking into account one more factor- whether the product is environmentally friendly- you can consider yourself an environmental activist and save tremendous money in your home energy bills and reduce garbage output at the same time!
